Death in the form of an oppressed peasant takes its revenge on the count, crushing him with the breastplate of a dead soldier, killed in wars started for the nobleman's profit and benefit. The Count, whose policies have led others to their death, is shown trying to run away like a coward from the apporach of death. The vignette is a surprising social commentary on the moral worth of he nobility, and a remarkable example of free artistic expression for the time.
